South African Artist

I paint because I got tired of streets full of adverts and nothing that looked like the people who lived there. I studied corporate communications, saw how much of what we see is designed to sell us something, and walked away from it. I'd rather put real faces and real stories on a wall. Every painting I make is a time capsule. It holds the mood, the energy, and the feeling of the moment it was made, what it was like to be alive then. But I also want it to be beautiful enough to outlast that moment, so it still feels fresh years from now. The work is portraits, painted from my own perspective, through a Black African lens. That's where I see the world from, and it shapes every face I paint. They're loose, bold, and layered with graffiti, text and symbols, with colour I choose by feel, not by plan. The faces are never just one person. They carry something we all know, like joy, tiredness, hope, or grief. I leave the mistakes in, because that's usually where the best parts show up. When you stand in front of one of my paintings, I want you to see yourself in someone else's face. We are all connected. We are all one. The lines that separate us were drawn by people, not by nature, and my art is here to break them down and remind us of the shared self we've always been.
