WALKING GALLERY

Langa-street-art-Photo-credit-Tayla-Gent

Through a collaboration of artists and community leader Mr Thulani Fezi, a series of Murals have been painted in Langa overtime. The murals reflect the ideas, the daily life and the ambitions of the people that live in Langa. Langa is the closest township to the city of Cape Town, a Peri Urban area built to keep black people out of white suburbia but close enough to cheaply and efficiently shuttle in low-cost labour. Langa has become the most densely painted area in South Africa by the countries most prized and noticeable street artists. Given the density of fine art in the area the community chose to formalise this into a “walking gallery” where visitors can walk the entire township of Langa, gain deep insights into the community that lives there all whilst enjoying fine art.
