SKUBALISTO
LANGA HERITAGE MURAL PROJECT

Langa is the closest township to the city of Cape Town, a Peri Urban area built to keep black people out of white suburbia but close enough to cheaply and efficiently shuttle in low-cost labour. A collaboration between “Fuzzy Slippers”, “Robane”, “Breeze Yoko” and myself Skubalisto, the murals were painted on government built flats after months of consulting the community on what they would like to see every day on their homes. To many South Africans the government-built flats have come to be associated with a legacy we would all like to forget. However, the community that lives in them have specifically chosen to see the heroes of their struggle such as mum Annie Salinga an anti “Dom Pass” activist and the strength of the people that live in their community.
